The minimum qualifications for the Fire Recruit position include a HS Diploma/GED, a valid driver's license (VA license is required within 30 days of hire) and you must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire. There are other restrictions that automatically disqualify an applicant including conviction of any felony. We have a 26-week training academy that all new firefighters must attend, regardless of experience or prior rank. We have career development at all class titles below Fire Lieutenant.

After submission of the online application, those candidates meeting the minimum requirements for the position of Fire Recruit will be invited to sit for a written test. Those candidates will receive notification via email and will be contacted to schedule a time for the written test. Candidates who score above the established cut-off will advance to the next step in the process.
